Furniture Scavenging

We've begun the hunt of collecting furniture. Our goal is to source the majority of the pieces second-hand and build the rest ourselves. This means we are going to use the next few months scouring Craigslist, salvage shops, estate sales, etc.

Last week we made our first purchase! After perusing Craigslist, I found a listing for used Fritz Hansen chairs for a steal of a price. Fritz Hansen was a Danish carpenter and cabinetmaker who founded his own company in 1872. In 1915, he released his first chair, made of simple steam bent wood. Hansen collaborated with Arne Jacobsen, a famous Danish architect and designer, and together released the "Ant." The Ant made Danish design famous and the Republic of Fritz Hansen has continued to attract talented visionaries making the brand one of the most recognized Danish design companies today. . The chairs we found are the very popular Series 7 model, released in 1955 and made of pressure moulded veneer.

Our plan is to sand, refinish, and restore these beauties to their original charm. We plan to use them as the conference room seats, adding a bit of retro glamour to The Pioneer Collective. Here are the chairs we purchased below along with images courtesy of the Republic of Fritz Hansen
