What inspired you to open your own skincare studio, and how did you get started?

I was inspired to start my own skincare studio after years of working under doctors, other master aestheticians, and luxury prestige skin care brands. After accumulating a cult following and experience to create a sustainable foundation, my dad of all people cut me a check for $2500, gave me a nudge and told me it was time to start my own business. That is how White Orchid Skin Studio was born.

Walk us through a day in your life as both a business owner and a master aesthetician.

My days at the spa usually start by popping by our stocked kitchen to grab coffee, snacks, and beverages for daily clients and quick greeting and check in with on-site management. They are always there to make sure I have everything that I need to succeed, bring me up-to-date on all things TPC, an offer an aura of positive energy. I’ll make my way down to the spa, greeting my long and short term neighbors, establishing connections and accruing potential clients along the way. Next, It’s time to open up the spa, prep my lavender towels, get my tools and tech ready, start the spa music, and get my clients files for the day. The rest of my day will be spent creating comprehensive skin treatment plans, performing facial treatments, managing social media and marketing (make sure to follow @whiteorchidskinstudio) and supporting my clients skin goals, every step of the way.

How did you build and retain a loyal client base in such a competitive industry?

By leaning into my experience, continuing my education, and always showing up for my clients. Every single client has my personal phone number, and they know that I’m there to support them every step of the way. The treatments get them in, the relationship we develop keeps them coming back. Results oriented in a relaxing environment is the White Orchid Skin Studio mission statement.

What’s your approach to creating a personalized skin care experience for clients?

Consult. Consult. CONSULT. The consultation is the single most important part of the facial treatment. I carve out at least 45 minutes for consultations for new clients where we do a deep dive on medication’s, health considerations, diet & supplements, skin goals, current skin treatment plans & products, and so much more to create a fully comprehensive skin profile. This is essential to ensure we’re getting you to your skin goals and educating you so you can make the best decisions for your skin going forward. That is my secret sauce, my formula for success.

What made you choose this location for your studio, and what factors played into that decision?

I knew that my studio space was the perfect fit as soon as the elevator doors opened. I toured approximately nine other locations before deciding on settling in to TPC as my permanent headquarters for White Orchid Skin Studio.

I feel like I am truly part of something special having my business name alongside the other “pioneers“ at TPC. The incredible architecture and details of not only my suite but the common areas at TPC made my decision very easy. The on-site management supports my goals and businesss along every step of the way, allowing me to solely focus on my work and clients, and I am truly so thankful to have them

Why is it so important for people to see an aesthetician for their skincare needs?

One word, customization. Everybody’s skin is different, has different needs. Different lifestyle, medical, genetic, and budgetary considerations. Having the opportunity to have an experienced professional carve out the time, take in all of the necessary information and formulate a skin treatment plan that is best for you is the ideal set up. But sadly not the norm in my experience. There is a major gap in the industry and I’ve created a proven system of success to fill that for gap clients that have less than stellar experiences.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge when starting my business was making the most of what I had access to. With a tight budget, a modest space, a small starter account at PCA SKIN, and the support of my clients and loved ones, I was able to organically grow into a top 13 percentile health and beauty business on the Square platform.

What do you like to do outside of work that brings you happiness?

I love trying new recipes at home with my husband Devin, exploring new bars and restaurants around town, or watching cooking/food & travel shows at home. Basically, a lot of food centered activities, ha! (My new fave? En Rama at Courthouse Square Tacoma)

Do you have a favorite podcast you like to listen to?

Armchair Expert #armcherry

Describe yourself in three to five words.

Charismatic, determined, creative

How do you market your studio – and what works best for bringing in new clients?

My studio is marketed 100% by social media, and word-of-mouth. It just goes to show that you don’t have to have a million dollar marketing budget to be successful, all you need is a ring light, an iPhone and a vision.

I have a linked Instagram account called @theskinteacher where I drop educational content and it has been a great learning and recruiting tool for existing and potential new plants. My number one tip?: Talk about things YOU are truly passionate about, and the authenticity will shine through.
